CVBM STATE FAIR MINISTRY
Thank you to all the churches that participated in the CVBM State Fair Ministry. Our focus this year was on the State Fair workers. We asked for volunteers to visit the workers before the Fair opened each morning and hand out hundreds of “Hospitality Bags” provided by local churches. Our contact at the State Fair was overwhelmed when she saw the wonderful “Hospitality Bags” you provided. They were well-received and as we handed them out we repeatedly heard comments such as, “This came just in the nick of time,” “I could really use one of those,” and “My room-mate has nothing. Can I take one for him?” The workers commented on items such as deodorant, shampoo, and Chap-Stick, and how needed they were.
Each of the hospitality bags included an invitation to a “Free” breakfast and worship/music time on both Sunday mornings the Fair was in town. Those that attended commented on what a special time it was and how much they enjoyed it. “Borrowed Time” did a wonderful job of providing the music. Some folks even stayed after the service to sing with the group. Mike Gafford brought the message. Mike reminded us all that even when we are away from home – we are never alone – God is as close as we allow him to be in our lives. The CVBM State Fair Ministry Team provided coffee, orange juice, pastries, and McDonalds helped with biscuits for the breakfast.
CVBM folks handed out, The Invitation, a CD narrated by Rick Warren that included Christian music as well as a message that included an invitation to get to know God. We also handed out the New Believers Bibles.
The CVBM State Fair Ministry helped me to realize that of all the times that I have visited the State Fair, I am sorry to say I cannot remember one time that I actually welcomed the workers to the Richmond area or thanked them for all they do to make it a safe and enjoyable time for our families. Thank you for making it possible for us to welcome, thank, and encourage State Fair workers – reminding us all that, “Where 2 or 3 are gathered in Christ’s name – he is there among us.”
